ABOUT JACOB JENSEN BAND *************************

The band started in 1989 as an experiment to see if l could, following my own theory "Music as a tool for developing the weaker area`s of social behaviour of the mentally disabled" (Learning by doing with guidance) could help the disabled to a better quality of life.

The area`s l have worked upon are:

To take a resposability for one`s self and also for other`s
2. Listen to and respect others opinions
3. Discuss in a democratic form
4. Learn to make realistic demands on their surroundings (Parents, friends and social workers)
5. Build up their self confidence and self esteem
6. Learn to work as a team, and at the same time to be able to give the mentally disabled l was working with a success in life


The project is aimed at making the members of the band more independent and confident with the new tasks they are presented with daily, this l have achieved by allowing the band first of all freedom, in the choice of clothes on stage, the choice of music played, and a right to decide and be part of a democractic decision on all issues relating to the band.

Since 1989 Jacob Jensen Band (Popcorn) have toured abroad on many occasions (see under tours) all with great success, some of the tours have been hard and has needed team work to get through, this has been achieved and the general feeling from parents and social workers has been that they have seen a vast social development.

 

The music development goes without saying, one only has to listen to the latest CD to hear how far they have come, l can see their social development going hand in hand with their musical development and of course the major point has always been that Jacob Jensen Band (Popcorn) perform without the aid of music teachers or social workers and only perform their own numbers giving not only an individual success but also a group success.

l am available for lecture`s presentations and workshops. l can name that l have given lecture`s in all country`s where Jacob Jensen Band (Popcorn) have performed.

 

Future plans

The next step now is to teach them how to record and mix their music, make their own cd cover and music video as well as keeping their home page up to date, starting their own booking agency and keeping their own accounts. When this is acceived they will then be able to be employed by others to make a whole cd concept.
